Marc Rebillet and Wayne Brady live streamed an improv collab a couple days ago. At around 49:00 they get into a rap battle about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Marc struggles to hang with Wayne, but then out of nowhere he drops this sick bar:
What a privilege to be alive and thrive
What a privilege to have a pulse and die
It reminded me of a line from Saturn by Sleeping At Last:
With shortness of breath
I’ll try to explain the infinite
How rare and beautiful it is to even exist
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. I’m going to die, dang it. One day, my life will end. Someday, I’ll take my last shower, drink my last cup of coffee, say hello to someone for the last time.
There are so many cliches here: you only live once, life is short, etc. But cliches are dangerous because we hear them so much that we stop paying attention.
I’m going to be dead one day. And I’m spending the morning worrying about a dang meeting? What the hell?
