“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

I first heard this said by Jacqueline Novogratz on a podcast (she’s my new hero, by the way – check out that episode), but apparently that quote has been around the block.

It doesn’t say one is better than the other, although distance often matters more than speed. Losing weight, starting a business, raising a child, etc. There’s a reason many VC’s don’t take solo founders as seriously as cofounders. But sometimes going fast does matter more than going far. Maybe building a POC or testing a new product idea fits here.

It’s a practical quote, and I love it for that. When I’m starting something new, I should ask myself “do I want to go fast or far?” and that should tell me if I need a partner.
