According to this study, “experiencing multiple stressors increased the vulnerability to developing PTSD and/or MDD after a natural disaster.”
In other words, having a hard life made people more likely to develop PTSD or depression from a natural disaster. What didn’t kill them made them weaker. Their hard lives didn’t toughen them up.
So does the old saying have it wrong, or am I over-extrapolating from this one very specific study? Anyone have any more info? Let me know!
