Try the wacky experiment first

When given the choice between multiple experiments that may fix a problem, try the wacky one first. The non-wacky choice is probably safer, which means it’ll probably fix the problem (in a boring, safe way), which means if you start with that one, you’ll never get to try the wacky one.

From failing, you learn. From success, not so much.”

You don’t get bonus points if the first experiment you try works. An experiment that doesn’t work is still a success if you learn from it. So starting with wacky maximizes your potential for learning.

Starting with wacky on a team says that on this team, we try stuff that may not work. We take risks. We fail fast to learn fast.

(And the wacky one is usually more fun.)
