The unreasonable effectiveness of lightning demos

Lightning demos (as I define them) have two traits:

  1. They last less than 30 seconds
  2. They take less than 10 minutes to prepare or record

If you’re an engineer building a thing, I suggest recording a couple per week and posting them somewhere visible, because:

  • They’re wayyyyy more engaging than written status updates
  • They’re so short that everyone will actually watch them
  • If they don’t feel dead simple to make then it’s because you’re trying too hard
  • You’ll get better feedback on your WIP earlier in the development process
  • They may negate the need for you to waste your time on longer, more polished demos later
