I heard that throwaway line in an old episode of Grey’s Anatomy and I loved it. Being pissed is a form of energy, and energy should be channeled whether it’s good or bad.
Some options that come to mind:
- Rage-write a blog post. It’ll help you figure out what you’re really mad about and, even better, what you can do about it. And it’s cathartic.
- Move your dang body. Sling some weights or go running until you wear yourself out. You’ll be less pissed and slightly healthier!
- Vent to someone who isn’t your bestie (but tell them you’re not looking for advice). Venting is vulnerability, and vulnerability is the lifeblood of relationship building.
- Stand the frick up for yourself. First let the fire die down a bit so you won’t say anything you regret. Then use the embers as confidence to say what you’d normally be too scared to say.
Whatever you do, don’t let all that rage-energy go to waste.
