That’s one of the golden insights I got from reading 10% Happier. A thought is little more than nothing. So why am I allowing myself to be yanked around by my thoughts?
The book says to ask yourself one question: “is this useful?”
- Is ruminating about that meeting earlier today useful?
- Is stressing about your kid’s picky eating useful?
- Is your anxiety about the presentation next week useful?
If it is useful, then so be it. But if not, then remind yourself that a thought is little more than nothing, and let it go.
