Never surprise your boss

Just don’t. Too risky. Make sure your boss expects what’s coming.

“But what about good surprises! Everyone likes them!” No. A good surprise is still a surprise, and surprises make bosses nervous. Your boss will think, “If I was in the dark about this good thing, what’s to stop me from being in the dark about a bad thing?”
