Letter writing is a lost art. Instead of one long self contained letter, now we write each other 500 strung together texts.
There’s something special about reading a letter written just for you. It has a beginning and a middle and an end. It’s complete. Everything the author wanted you to know in that moment is right there. And you aren’t a jerk if you don’t respond within ten minutes.
There’s something special about writing one too. Writing is thinking, and a letter forces you to clarify your thoughts.
If you think without writing, you only think you’re thinking.
Leslie Lamport
You can take your time with it. There are no blinking dots and no hurrying to type the next message so they don’t take the last one out of context. You have the time and space to really craft it, start to finish.
Write someone a letter today, even if it’s in the form of an email. See how it feels.
