The four feedback gates

When you’re working on a project, here’s when you should get feedback from stakeholders:

  • 1% done – “I’m just getting started. Does the plan make sense at a high level?”
  • 10% done – “I’ve made a little progress. Any concerns with the direction I’m heading?”
  • 50% done – “I’m about half done. Last chance to voice any big concerns!”
  • 90% done – “Almost done! Anything I’m missing?”

Any more than that has diminishing returns and becomes overwhelming. Any less leaves stakeholders feeling ignored and anxious.
