Contributors, not attendees

I like the idea from this post of reframing the people in the meeting as “contributors” rather than “attendees.”

Don’t invite anyone to a meeting unless their contribution is essential. And don’t attend a meeting unless your contribution is essential.

But this gets complicated:

  • Some people (cough) worry that others will get offended if they aren’t invited
  • Some people (double cough) feel pressure to attend stuff that doesn’t need them

Clear is kind, as always. And in writing this I’m realizing that I’m not being clear with either of those points. I must fix that.
