The first thing I look for at a new job is a back-channel buddy. I need someone to BS with on Slack throughout the day. It makes me feel at home.
The Q12 survey for employee engagement says that “Do you have a best friend at work?” is one solid indicator of engagement. I don’t know about “best friend” because those are strong words. But a back-channel buddy is enough for me.
