Here’s the five-minute rule:
- When you’re putting something off, set a timer for five minutes.
- Work on the thing for those five minutes.
- If you want to stop when the timer goes off, you can.
That’s it. Usually, once you’ve gotten over the hump of getting started, you’ll want to keep going.
Out of the bajillion methods for killing procrastination, this is one of the only ones that has consistently worked for me for years.
