What’s your play personality?

There are eight play personalities (according to the National Institute for Play):

  1. Collector: Finds joy in accumulating a collection of things (either physical objects or experiences). Think: Jay Leno with his cars.
  2. Competitor: Finds joy in playing to win games or competitions.
  3. Creator/Artist: Finds joy in creating things (art, crafts, technology, whatever). Think: Steve Jobs.
  4. Director: Finds joy in planning, coordinating, and orchestrating events.
  5. Explorer: Finds joy in discovering new things. Could be physical, emotional, or mental exploration.
  6. Joker: Finds joy in humor, silliness, laughing, and making people laugh.
  7. Kinesthete: Finds joy in physical movement. Often this means sports, but they enjoy the physical movement more than the competition (unlike number two above).
  8. Storyteller: Self explanatory. Finds joy in telling stories. Think: novelists, playwrights, cartoonists, or screenwriters.

There’s a quiz you can take if you aren’t sure what your play personality is. Supposedly, mine is the Explorer:

Not sure if I buy it though. I think I lean more Joker.

Does your result vibe with what you think about yourself?
