Does “optional” in a meeting invite actually mean optional in your team? Or does it mean “yeah, you COULD skip this, if you want to be a jerk”?
If you feel like you’re being a good teammate by attending every meeting, swap that. A good teammate normalizes skipping the meetings that don’t need them.
Stop feeling guilty about declining invites to meetings that don’t require you, and start feeling guilty for attending those meetings. Kill the cultural pressure to attend every meeting, and replace it with pressure to skip as many as possible.
Take pride in skipping meetings.
